This afternoon, the top 4 bands from this year's Battle of the Bands went over the road to Downs Infant School to perform for the children and staff.
In March 2018, the bands Gryffindor Vs Slytherin (Year 3), Musical Fireworks (Year 4) and P.E.B. (Year 5) received the same score total from our music industry judges, finishing in joint second place. This year's winners were No Signal (Year 6). Congratulations to all of you - Misa, Kaya, Leo, Edi, Phine, Olive, Violet, Eva, Joseph and Isla. To see videos of their performances today, visit the BATTLE OF THE BANDS 2018 page. Today saw the first of four performances of Mary Poppins. The Year 6 children performed brilliantly, with wonderful acting and singing and slick backstage support. Well done to the entire Mary Poppins team. Have a restful weekend, ready for next week's performances.
Some of the boys in 5DR wanted to perform their Fortnite dance to the class today! Ernie (Year 5) has been writing his own World Cup song about Team England's journey. Ernie adds a new verse or a middle-8 / bridge section after every match and every stage of the tournament. On the day of England's semi-final against Croatia (today), we recorded Ernie's song so far... I wonder what tomorrow's new verse will sound like... celebrations or commiserations...?
Well done Ernie - it's BRILLIANT! COME ON ENGLAND!!!
Here's this year's Downs Junior School performance at Let's Dance (Brighton), dancing to Praise You by Fat Boy Slim:On Sunday 15th July, MEGA CHOIR, ORCHESTRA, SUPER CHOIR

WOW - well done to everyone involved in today's Sports Day - the staff, the families and, of course, the hard-working, fast-running, high-jumping, far-throwing children. Those 512 ice lollies at break time disappeared within minutes! You must all be so proud of your efforts today. Thanks also to everyone who participated in the ceremony dances. If you want to see the videos, of WAKA WAKA and HALL OF FAME, visit the SPORTS DAY PAGE. Same time next year?! Congratulations to the children in 4PY and 4F who spoke to the audience to introduce a song, sing a solo and played their ukulele and pBuzz. Following only 9 lessons with Sarah and Miss Rusbatch the children came together as a musical ensemble to perform 4 songs. BRILLIANT KIDS! For more information about whole-class ukulele and pBuzz tuition, visit the UKULELE PAGE or the PBUZZ PAGE.
Congratulations and thanks to Laurie and Milly (in Year 6) for performing to the whole school today, alongside their teacher Francesca. It's wonderful to be able to see and hear the progress you're both making. On Saturday night, the Brighton Goes Gospel (BGG) choir performed at the Clarendon Centre. Below is a video of Miss Rusbatch's duet performance of a song called Love Never Changes. BGG are lucky to have weekly rehearsals with world-class musicians and directors, namely Daniel Thomas and Jason Thompson. Here's this year's demo video for Waka Waka (thanks 3K). The whole school perform this school during the opening and closing ceremonies on Sports Day. For more information about sports day plus other performances and demo videos, visit the Sports Day page. Orchestra and Year 6 Super Choir - today's rehearsal videos have been added to the YouTube channel and to the Super Choir page and the Orchestra page. You can watch them below too.
