You do not need to bring your instruments into school next week - we are continuing with song-writing for one more week. In the meantime, continue to practice the piece. There are reminders and help sheets to download and YouTube video links to watch to help you with your instrument, on the SOUNDMAKERS page.
The timings for the Year 6 music clubs have changed to allow for a smooth operation in the canteen at lunchtime. Year 6 no longer require passes and do not need to eat their lunch early.
Jam Club on Mondays, Gig Club on Tuesdays and Super Choir on Thursdays now start at 12.35 and finish at 1.00pm. The Year 6 lunch sitting will then begin at 1.05pm. SINGING SQUAD on Wednesdays - at the moment, this will remain on Wednesday lunchtime 12.45 - 1.10pm. It is important that the Singing Squad children in classes 5K, 5Q, 4M, 4R and 4C have passes to allow them to eat their dinner at 12.30 and then proceed to the music room for 12.45. PLEASE contact Miss Rusbatch if you have suggestions or contacts regarding funding and potential sponsorship for the Kesho Amahoro Project. Many thanks.
Please bring your Christmas song lyrics tomorrow. Thank you. The songs are available to listen to on the Super Choir page.
Singing Squad has been cancelled this week due to the new lunchtime system.
5A finished their recordings today and 4C reviewed the performance of Rusalka at Glyndebourne.
Enjoy the Halloween Disco tonight kids and have a GRRRRRRRREAT half term. From Miss Rusbatch x Do you want to develop your singing voice?
Voice lessons will be available at Downs Junior School after half term, taught by Eva Rustige. The lessons will occur on Monday mornings 09:00 - 11:30 in the canteen and will be taught in small groups. Eva will deliver an assembly to the children on Thursday 8th November and lessons will commence on Monday 12th November. Eva's contact details can be found on the Private Lessons page. Maybe you will be the next Adele or Emeli Sande? Thank you very much to the parents and children who attended the Kesho Amahoro meeting today. Don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions, suggestions or useful contacts regarding any element of this project.
If you missed this meeting, don't worry. The Kesho Amahoro page will be updated regularly with any developments. After half term, an important letter will be sent home (this will also be available to download on the Kesho Amahoro page) regarding commitment to the project and an opportunity for parents to list the ways in which they would be able to assist. Today, some children in 4R posted their reviews of the Glyndebourne's production of Dvorak's 'Rusalka'. You can read the reviews and add your own on the Year 4 Autumn Term 1 page.
ATTENTION VIOLINISTS: A violin has gone missing. It belongs to Kitty in Year 5 and she hasn't seen her violin for a few weeks. We think that someone may have mistaken her violin for their own. It is in a purple and blue case. Please check that you haven't taken Kitty's violin home by accident. If found, please return it to Miss Rusbatch. Thank you.
Year 4 experienced the thrills of Dvorak's 'Rusalka' at Glyndebourne Opera House today. The costumes, sets, music and drama were outstanding and the children's standing ovation, whooping, cheering and clapping at the end spoke volumes. Their behaviour was exemplary and I am looking forward to hearing their reviews. Visit the Rusalka page for more details.
Miss Rusbatch will be holding a meeting for parents in the school hall at 2.30pm on Wednesday 24th October. This will be a Q&A session regarding the upcoming project. A proposal will be distributed to the children who are interested in participating ahead of this meeting. The proposal is available to download in case you're unable to attend the meeting. If you have any specific questions please contact Miss Rusbatch using the contact form.
Congratulations to Thom, Max, Reuben and Lucas for their performance in assembly this morning. You have inspired many other children to pick up an instrument and collaborate with other children to make music and have fun. Listen to their performance of Hotel California below:
