We look forward to sharing some of our compositions and accomplishments (using music technology) very soon.. All music clubs and ensembles will re-commence this week.
Please ensure you have signed up via ParentPay before the deadline this Friday. Thank you. Congratulations to everyone from the Year 4 and Year 5 creative teams for an impressive Brighton Festival parade performance - you looked and sounded wonderful. BRAVO!

Huge thanks to Yukie Day and Lee Salvidge for taking photos and filming the evening. Last Friday, our voice students performed to the whole school. During the day on Tuesday, Year 6 were busy rehearsing for and performing in their own 12-bar-blues music videos. Last night was the final of the Battle of the Bands 2019. And today, we were treated to performances by our flute and recorder students.
Well done and thank you to everyone involved. Updates, photos and video clips will be added to the website over the next few days. The judges for this year's Battle of the Bands FINAL 2019 have been announced.
Visit the BOTB 2019 to find out who they are. There's also information for finalists available to view. If you have any questions, please contact Miss Rusbatch ASAP It has taken a few weeks to sink in, but, on Wednesday 6th March 2019, Miss Rusbatch received the Inspiration Award at the national Music Teacher Awards for Excellence in London. I feel incredibly honoured, humbled, shocked and grateful. This truly is an award for Downs Junior School and our community and is the result of a hugely supportive team of families and school staff. Thank you to everyone and anyone who has been involved in music-related events over the years. Long may music ring through this school! (A. Rusbatch) Wow! What a week of performances. Well done to everyone who has been busy writing songs and rehearsing. This year, every single band performed their OWN SONG in their audition. That’s AMAZING! You all have so much potential and there is clearly a huge amount of talent in this school. Every band who auditioned this week can chat with Miss Rusbatch next week at lunchtime for audition feedback. She will tell you what she liked about your song and what went well with your performance. She will also tell you how she thinks your band and your song could be improved.
The music room was transformed into a zoo today. The children from last term's winning house (Malala) encountered, held and learned about skinny pigs, chameleons, toads, lizards, pythons and many more fascinating animals.
Many thanks to RepTylers (Luke and Kirstie) for coming in and engaging so many lucky children at Downs Junior School. Special thanks also to Sophia in Year 4 for assisting her Dad, Luke, in assemblies. For many, the highlight of the day was meeting Monty (the python - of course). For more information about RepTylers, and to book them for a party, visit their website: reptylers.co.uk. Entry to this year's Battle of the Bands closed last Friday.
The audition list is now complete. For further information about this year's battle, and to view the audition list, visit the Battle of the Bands 2019 web page. Rehearsals are going well for this year's Battle of the Bands. Remember, the entry deadline is Friday 8th February 2019. More information can be found on the Battle of the Bands 2019 page.
